ME310 Soil Formation and Classification

Description: Lecture course. The course covers soil formation factors, processes and properties, diagnostic soil properties and horizons, and the principles of pedogenic soil classification. Main emphasis is on the FAO-Unesco world soil classification system, but the US Soil Taxonomy and World Reference Base for Soil Resources systems are also introduced. The objective of the course is to provide the student with the necessary background in soil formation processes and properties to understand how soil horizons and profiles are formed and used to classify soils.
